We have heard for years to increase your HDL and decrease your LDL and that is still true, but it was interesting when I read a study a few years old that connected inflammation to cholesterol. The article on www.health.com states: “Inflammation is the common denominator in nearly all of the diseases we deal with,” says James O’Keefe, MD, director of preventive cardiology at the Mid America Heart Institute in Kansas City, Mo. “Heart disease, diabetes, dementia they’re all tied to inappropriate, low-grade, chronic inflammation.”
Over the last 10-15 years there has been research done on the C-reactive protein or CRP. Some well-respected institutions have touted that it should be tested for at the same time you have your cholesterol checked, others disagree. The bottom line is that it is a measure of inflammation in your body.
Does your “in”-ternal “flame” burn brighter than it should? Maybe it is time to see what you can do to lower your body’s inflammation levels.
