“I have been eating food all my life without any idea of where this food came from or how it was made.”
Did you know that McDonald’s is the largest purchaser of ground beef and potatoes in the United States? Their goal was to make sure the beef tasted the same everywhere.
According to the movie, Food, Inc., today there are three or four companies controlling meat packing in the world. Birds are raised and slaughtered in ½ the time and are twice as big. Chickens have been “re-engineered” to have bigger breasts, because the consumer buys more breasts. Companies are producing “food” not chicken, so they need to be about the same size. Chickens come to market in 49 days, instead of 3 months and never see sunlight. Their larger bodies can’t keep up with the internal growth, so their legs can’t carry their weight and they fall down.
