It is my understanding that addictions come from sugar, salt, and fat that has been added to our food. As Dr. Luca Moretti stated at a conference I attended in Tampa, if we were eating natural food, we enjoy sweetness, but when we have had enough, we do not crave it anymore. The same with fat or salty natural foods.
Somewhere along the line, it was discovered that when sugar and salty food were put together, it tricked the brain into not knowing when enough was enough, and our bodies continued to crave more food. If you look at many of our processed foods, salt and sugar are combined, bypassing our normal “shut off” receptors. Thus, we crave those chips, or foods, resulting in what we may call our food addictions.
The more I learn about nutrition and unrefined plant based foods, the more convinced I become that there is really something to this.
